The only problems I have ever found with it is I would sometimes find them in the corner smoking some of it!!!

Well, to be quite honest, I have never used it, but I couldn't resist the joke there..LOL!

I wouldn't see it being any worse than other types of wood substrate, as long as any swollowing of it was very minimum.

Do you have any pics of the stuff?

I've been using/experimenting with it in a few tubs/cages and it seems to clump nice for feces removal. Slight odor in less ventilated enclosures and it mildews when wet like any other wood sustrate but removal seems like basic maintenance to my way of looking at it like feces removal. Always looking to do the best for my animals like others here.

Off topic, But saw this guy on side of Sky Line drive at Shenandoah national park in Virginia a few days ago. Wished I could have pushed him off the road before he was hit.

helped this guy to side he was pointed. He was just sitting in the middle waiting..........

DMong Aug 29, 2010 03:24 PM

Gosh Bob, that's too bad the Timber there didn't get as lucky as the turtle did. But at least the turtle did well with your assistance.

Yeah, After you've raised up snakes from hatchlings to adults I think we kind of take it more seriously because we see how long this animal lived to get this large and have an appreciation for all the things it probably went through just to make it this far just to get trashed in a split second. Bummer.

DMong Aug 29, 2010 04:23 PM

Yeah, Bob,....that is exactly how I see those things too!

Wow!,..that looks pretty similar to alot of aspen bedding, and I have never had a problem with aspen in all the years of using it.

I would think that would be just as good all thing being equal.

That guy looks like Johnny Vegas from the UK TV show Ideal! That is something he would do! LMAO!!!!

For irritable snakes that hemp bedding might calm them right down!

Yeah, or at the very least make them forget they are in captivity!..LOL!

It's great for troublesome feeders.

Ryan_Sikola Aug 29, 2010 05:13 PM

The only issue I would worry about is the oils and if they are strong like cedar and bad for the snake.

Some minced "puree" pinkie also added to the brownie mix would send the little snake into slumber-land!..

in the way it performs. The notable difference is it weighs less by volume than even aspen. Snakes did fine on it. I would use it more but the stores here do not stock it often.
