uh oh need help

mikesik Aug 30, 2010 01:11 AM

my mojave girl who's clutch just hatched out has a HARD lump/ball near its vent. its just about completely unnoticeable just by looking but she has been uncharacteristically off feed for the past few weeks so i decided to give her the once over....she did feed right after laying

upon finding the lump, on the bottom just before the vent i could notice discomfort in her. I massaged the lump trying to make sure i was in fact one and not her tighting up/contracting muscles and it actually moved. it slid a good 4 -6 inches toward her head and could move it back. It feels hard and round about double the size of an m&m.... (retained egg?) it has been a while if it is. whatever it is it doesnt sound good

any ideas...HELP

some things you just can't "un-see" or "un-smell"

i happened to check on her again right after the post and she had diahrea'd (spelling?) all over the place. the lump was still there but it could see she as trying to pass it and could not. With a bit of gentle tooth past tube sqeezing motion it helped her pass was a solid bit of crap/egg/disgustingness that was closer to the size of a shotgun shell than an M&M.

there was quite a bit of "shrapnel" with that process and not one spot of the bin or myself was safe from...well, u get the idea.

Oh My, I'm so glad you found it and resolved the problem so quickly. Hopefully she'll be OK now. For her to have that much poop stuck in her after a few weeks of not eating could not have been pleasant for her. On a side note I'm glad you don't squeeze your toothpaste out the way I do. I roll the end up and had that mental picture in my head as I was reading it, of you rolling her up, I knew you didn't do that, but that's just how I picture getting toothpaste out...

Could be urates, or a deflated egg. I did have a corn snake which had a egg stuck in her near her vent...eventually she was able to pass it...but I was worried, didn't feed her for weeks, tried to drain the egg with a syringe...even used a probe to carefully lubricate things too, as well as gentle massage. Finally I decided to feed her a small rodent...hoping maybe having fecal matter will let her push it out...if it didn't work I was going to go to a vet...but she managed to 'poop' it out a few days after being fed.

What came out was an egg sized black (most likely due to being covered in fecal matter, or just the bile) oval that was very hard. She didn't have any signs of other eggs, nor was there any trace of blood or prolapsing...and the following year she produced a large clutch without issue. I don't recommend waiting a long time hoping for a stuck egg to be passed on its own...I was lucky...but I was also broke at the time too.

I had similar problem with an albino male, he stopped eating and became noticeably thin. Took him to vet where he was wormed, massaged, and a lot of old poop/uric were discharged. He eat twice when he came home and then got "plugged up" again. I began weekly massaging to help him poop. He started eating regularly again. Went on like that for a couple months until he started pooping on his own again. Yay! Now he is a successful breeder of awesome high contrat albinos.

double the size of an M and M.....would be a urate ball? a small one.....retained eggs are like the size of retained eggs?....

/......some just don't eat after laying....I know of wild girls that never ate...and died...usually they will eat right away to a few weeks....I hit them with gerbils if needed to jump them going...not for the weak at heart....they may get hooked...most don't

I think the lump sounds small?....and try her again in a week with food...?....
