a first in snake removal

thomas davis Aug 30, 2010 07:30 AM

so am listed with animal control as a snake handler and get calls through the city whenever snakes wander into or around homes. mainly rats, ribbons, waters, e.hogs occasionaly kings or milks and some hots, coppers and cottons are found. all that i find i release into the country away from civilization. yesterday was a first, an elderly man has a snake in his toilet the tank not the bowl and ITS BIG according to dispatch. hmmmm ok be there asap so i get there the man informs me...ITS BIG and into the bathroom we go...
so i lift the tank top off and to my amazement is a 4to5ft. texas ratsnake(lindeheimer) now mind you its in the tank NOT the bowl which i can only surmise it somehow found its way into the sewer and crawled up through the toilet went the wrong way and ended up in the tank not sure how it could get past the peetrap but its the only way! this man had been out of town and there is noway it could have been placed there. so dumbfounded i removed it and told the man THATS A FIRST, i have found ratsnakes in carmotors, car wheel wells, under and in refridgerators, attics, walls, trees, etc. etc and now a toilet tank!

wow, That's a head scratcher? I would have guessed planted, but what would the point have been anyway with a heavy lid that the snake could not have lifted to freak out the homeowner when he got back......

No way that snake came in through the plumbing into the toilet tank. Dollars to donuts, it was placed there by a mischief maker!

My question is How many people open their top to their toilet tank? How often? How would you know the snake was in there unless you were sitting on the bowl and heard splashing going on. Just my thoughts. Pretty darn hilarious though.

well, there is noway it was planted there, the couple in their 70's had been out of town the week prior. fairly wealthy part of town nobody but the daughter had been in the house that week. the man went to use the bathroom and saw water leaking on the floor from the tank so he opened the tank and freeked called the police dept. which in turn called me. it was funny and certainly my first thought was someone planted it there but after speaking with the daughter and the couple extensively i as well as they feel there is noway it was planted there. which leaves only one conclusion and thats that it came up from the sewer... BIZARRE and a first for me.

I have noted you mentioned wealthy folks in their 70's...

Could the daughter perhaps have needed inheritance now...Hhmmmmm. Older folks being scared into cardiac arrest knowing tank failing to refill would be investigated? Sanke would slither away and discretely hide itself in some crevice in the house, leaving only, possibly a damp floor as evidence of the dark deed?

Motive? Hhhhmmmmmm.........

That's an uncomfortable thought even if your familiar with snakes.

Can you imagine getting up in the middle of the night, sitting down on the pot and getting bit in the private area by a hungry or scared Texas rat snake! SHUDDER!!!! LOL
