Gutted

Just checked on my het hypo female, and she has started giving birth. Its 110 POS days. (so im guessing approx 1 week early) And i found one baby on the cage floor. A 19gram dead hypo, or a very lack of colour normal, but i do think its a hypo. And nothing else. Mum is swelled up quite big, in the middle of her body (higher than i would have expected, but does look like she is having contractions. I guess the hypo was born a few hours ago. It also had one small kink in its back.
Im really not sure what is going to happen. I put newspaper across the mums cage, and am doing my best to not check on her for a few hours.
No way im going to work today!!!
Was stressed about other things yesterday, this is not helping!!!
Will post some pics of what i found, the camera battery died, while talking some shots.

arghhhhhh

cheers

I did go thru your Wilma post again, going thru all the scenarios.
But come on, these are our pets, and our hobby. We worry about them day and night normally. And when they gravid, well even more!!!

Sorry to hear Dave, good luck with the rest of the litter.

Was this a het x het or het x visual pairing?

Hey Anthony.
This was a het x het breeding. From Mike Lockwood animals. Male was an 06 and female an 07. I do have some older hypo females, and have included a picture of one shedding out. Given some of the regurg problems with the hypos, im planning on doing all my hypo projects by het x het breedings. My 2 adult hypo girls, wernt bred this year, as im waiting for next year for my anery male to be up to size, and hoping to produce 2 clutches of double hets. As the hypos have to be fed more carefully, another year will never hurt.

Well its 5am here and just got home from work. Mum is now in her waterbowl, and does not seem to be pushing etc, and i cannot see the lump as exaggerated as before. There is no new babies, or waxy stools etc that i can find. Im guessing she had that first stillborn approx 16hrs ago now. Guess the waiting game now begins.
Anyway here is a pic of the baby i found. To me it looks like a hypo, as opposed to lack of colour coming in yet. Guess will never know...

Dave,
...That baby looks several days premature, maybe even a week. Hard to be patient in situations like this but the longer she holds the rest of the litter the better.
Good luck!

Off my dates, she isnt due for another 7 days.
In your experience, have you had this situation arise before? With babies being born, and the rest of the litter later on? ie like Daves Wilma?

She back in her waterbowl, and i think i will see something in the next 48hrs.
I dont think she is going to have many, but hopefully it all works out ok.

Anything yet? Got some bubbly raised to healthy babies! I hope everything goes well!

brick1 Sep 03, 2010 11:59 AM

still nothing, although her big bulge is back.
To be honest, it looks like she is contorting her body to keep them in longer!!!
every finger is crossed....
