Lesser Platinums

MikeMurphy Aug 31, 2010 10:47 AM

Thought I'd post this here since there seems to be more more activity than on the genetics sub page:

I keep colubrids so I know very little about ball pythons although I have had a couple normals over the years. I saw quite a few at the Daytona show that caught my eye, namely the Lesser Platinums.

If I'm reading right, when you breed two lessers together you can potentially get a luecistic, correct? Are there different strains of lessers that are incompatible with one another or will the results be the same by breeding any lesser to any other lesser? Also, I read that you can breed a lesser with a mojave and also get luecitics. Is that true?

Also, I've seen prices for these all over the place. What would be a fair price for these or a pair? Any recommendations on breeders that have nice ones?

Thanks for the help,
Mike

If I'm reading right, when you breed two lessers together you can potentially get a luecistic, correct? ...YES. AND LESSER IS THE SAME AS LESSER PLATINUM.

Are there different strains of lessers that are incompatible with one another or will the results be the same by breeding any lesser to any other lesser? ...THERE ARE DIFFERENT LINES (IMPORTS THAT ARE NOT RELATED BY PREVIOUS BREEDINGS. I DON'T THINK ANY HAVE BEEN INCOMPATIBLE)

Also, I read that you can breed a lesser with a mojave and also get luecitics. Is that true? ...YES, AS WELL AS MANY OTHERS. LESSER X MOJAVE, BUTTER (PROB JUST DIFFERENT STRAIN THAN LESSER), AND IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN, HET RUSSO ALL WILL GIVE YOU BELs. LESSER X PHANTOM WILL ALSO PRODUCE KARMAS (SEE RALPH DAVIS REPTILES SITE).

IT IS A COMPLICATED GENE THAT SEEMS TO BY EITHER ALLELIC OR POLYGENIC. THEY ARE THEMSELVES A VERY BEAUTIFUL MORPH!

I AM SURE THAT MORE EXPERIENCED FOLKS ON HERE CAN GIVE MORE INFO, OR CORRECT ANYTHING I'VE SAID.
