Can snakes get along together when out?

LightElf Aug 31, 2010 06:30 PM

I often let my snakes out to roam around my room, I was wondering if they come in contact with eachother would the bigger one try to eat the smaller one? A 2 year old macklot's python thats 6' and a savu python that's 3'.. and im thinking about getting an olive python... i'm kinda scared to let the macklots even come near the savu bc of their eating habbits *pounce*

I think some can "get along" or at least tolerate other snakes in the vicinity when out and about as you described. HOWEVER, this is usually with snakes that are of like demeanor and prey preferences. Example would be a ball python and a boa or corn, or even boa and burmese python. Some of the species you mentioned may make the smaller snake lunch. Not sure about the Macklotts feeding habits, but the Olive may be more inclined to add snake to the diet if not mistaken. ANY python species that includes other reptiles on their diets may go for a smaller snake. The best bet if unsure is to not try.

Yea, ur probably right. I actually held the macklots gently by the neck while introducing him 2 the savu, so he couldnt lunge at him lol.

To be honest, I am not familiar nor have kept any of the indonesian/island python species. However, I seem to recall that some do add snakes and other reptiles to their diets in the wild. Better safe than sorry!!

...keep them seperate!...some Indo Pacific pythons may eat others,I mean why risk it?...and quit holding by the neck and "introducing" them before they end up hurting each other and possibly hurting you as well!...

Man, did you just end your last post the way I think you ended your post above? Really? This aint youtube/facebook/myspace with your friends and buds. You need to grow up and refrain from those types of comments on these forums IMO!!!!

LightElf Sep 10, 2010 08:19 PM

You're making this forum out to be some like religious/serious thing... Maybe it is??? Not that I still care but he obviously over-reacted a bit, but idc. Keep ur criticism 2 urself, if anything, that's out of line. And just bc I use shorthand once in a while when I want to say something quickly doesn't mean I'm being immature. Lighten up. I'm not even gonna reply to something if it's gonna b negative.

My reply was NOT directed at your use of shorthand, typing skills, or even your other posts. Check it out. I responded to your original questions and hopefully provided you some well thought insight into your question on introducing snakes to each other. Its not a religious thing, its a RESPECT thing, and making minority related comments in your post isnt a RESPECTFULL thing to do regardless of your maturity level. Use your shorthand, ask your questions, but please leave the BS gansta crap and derogatory minority references out of the posts on a public forum. ...one thing we are very serious about here is the proper care and handling of all snakes, you were told it was a bad idea that could cause both the snakes and you severe harm and it can and will happen if your not careful and dont stop doing ignorant things like you have been...
...grow up or get rid of the snakes...
