PLEASE HELP!

erika Sep 25, 2003 07:26 AM

Hey everyone,
I posted a few days ago(sept. 22) and didn't get any response. I have 6 pictus hatchlings now. The one that I asked the question about died yesterday. I think they may be impacted, I don't know what from other than they might've eaten a cricket that was too big??? I'll explain again what was going on. I went to check on them and noticed that one went limp and almost looked like it was seizuring, then it got up and seemed fine. So when I went to check on them yesterday after work, my boyfriend informed me that it had died, then I noticed that two more are starting to do the same thing!!! ok, so now i am very worried, what the heck is going on! will someone please help me this time!? it would be greatly appreciated.

How do you have them set up? Temps, substrate, etc. What you are describing does not sound like impaction. It sounds more like an illness. Possibly a bacterial infection.

Hello! I have seen nearly the same thing in hatchling Bearded Dragons - spastic hind leg extension. It is believed to be caused by eating prey items that are too large, so maybe eating a cricket that was too big is the cause. Sounds like they should be eating pinheads. A good rule of thumb: Prey items should be no longer than the width of the lizard's head. Good luck, and keep us posted.

hey!
yeah i went to a place here in kitchener (ontario) and they thought the same thing. so i picked up some sticky tongue miner-all stuff that they suggested and i'm trying that. i think you are right about the crickets...the place where i get them were all out of pinheads, so i got some smalls, but those were too big for them. thanks so much for your help! i appreciate it! they seem to be doing better already and haven't done that wiggly thing again since!
