Blood Boas and the Quest for the Red Boa

Oeleo Sep 01, 2010 07:44 PM

I have lurked on Kingsnake for 10 years and seen the fads come and go. However, I was wondering what everyone thinks of the current Blood Boa market and the quest for the truly red Boa (BCI that is).

Back in 2002, I originally thought Salmons would be the ticket to get the reddest boa possible. However it seems that as my Salmons aged, they turned more brown than red.

Then came the Blood boas, but they were too pricey to buy when they first came out. Now after doing more research it seems that these really don't stay all that red either. I figure the prices will start coming down after this next breeding season, so then they may be worthwhile to experiment with.

Or course now there is the Blood/T boa, but once again I don't see $12K for boas in my immediate future.

So all in all, I'm trying to see if the red boa is reasonably attainable in my lifetime. Also, I'm curious to see some of you guy's adult "red" boas (morphs or not). Thanks for indulging my curiosity!

Sangria Boas and Marron Boas will be the 2 routes I take.

The Marron project is a great color project
which I'm very enthusiastic about !

The Marron project s thought to work like the Motley, Aztec Jungle etc.
Codom / Incomplete Dominant projects
Here is a picture of some Super Marrons and a Marron

I like Hermin Soler's Sangria project

The Sangria project are Colombian Boas that appear to be a
recessive trait similar to the Blood Boa trait.

I believe the Sangria will stay extremely light bright and Red into adulthood !

I believe there is a bright Red Future for both of these projects

Wow, that's what I'm talking about! 5,000 Euros is slightly out of my budget, but WOW what a boa! I can't believe I missed hearing about these. I did take a slight break from forum lurking around the time these came out I guess.

Really liked the Sangria's Hermin had a Daytona... If your like me and putting deep color on a albino is an almost primal quest then I think these are definitely going to be a key to doing so... I haven't seen any adult super marrons so I can comment on them...

sounds like you need a can of red spray paint and a little patience. They'll be $100.00 soon. Just kidding. Those t-positive bloods will be the key in my opinion. I have seen them in person and they are the real deal. Since you dont seem like you want to drop $12000.00 on them, why not make your own hets(assuming you have adults ready to go now), grow them up in 3 or 4 years and breed them back to each other. Take the one or two Blood T-postives(if your lucky), grow them up and if you get a male, you can breed him back to his mom in 18 months(if your lucky). That should take you to about 6 years (minimum) before you can produce and sell a few of them. By then lets hope that you can find buyers who "want to drop" some money on them. Good luck. I think blood boas rock though. Like albinos and sunglows, some are wicked and some.......not so much. Take care. Mike Panichi

We agree that the Blood Boas and Bloody T+ Boas are one way to go but we also have to say that the Hypo Leopard is yet another.
Just a thought.
