Citrus question

johnnyd5844 Sep 02, 2010 09:25 PM

This may be a dumb question but I have been seeing alot of ads for super citrus dragons. Whats the difference between a citrus and a super citrus dragon?

when someone claims they have a super dragon I think its just been breed for the color generation after generation. I think crestedgecko.com breeds super tangerines

Gonna have to say that in my opinion a true "super" citrus is neon yellow that glows, fluorescent. They are a small percentage of offspring from a pure citrus bloodline. Much like "paper" white, and "true" red they are among the most difficult to produce with regularity, and you are going to part with some cash if you find a nice one for sale.

That being said, people will say almost anything to sell you a yellow, so getting one from a credible breeder will assure you are getting a true "super" citrus.

We like the yellows around here

There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers.

I agree with Jeff. Citrus can be yellow or orange. The brightest form of Citrus is Super Citrus. In my expierence, they tend to have a green cast or are silver as babies and brighten as they get older. Not to be confused with the grey and brown dragons with yellow eye circles you find on Fauna for sale as citrus or Super Citrus. Citrus and Super Citrus have full body color.

Great Question John, I agree w/ both Jeff and moonstone. The super-c's that I produce are generally solid to near solid vivid yellow citrus hypos w/ clear nails.
All citrus are yellow to orange. Tho the intensity may vary due to environment color, temps, diet etc.

i have had the Super Citrus color with both clear and dark nails.

Ok thanks everyone. So if it has blue bars can it still be super citrus or no?thanks again

Moonstone Sep 08, 2010 09:22 PM

To me it depends on the bars. If there are matching sets down the back it would be a tiger. Again we need to define tiger too. If it has two bars on one side near the sholder and one bar on the other side near the tail, to me it is not a tiger. Back to the yellow, if it is the really intense, saturated color, It could be a supercitrus tiger, refering to the base color. If it has 3 random bars, it is a supercitrus with some barring. Supercitrus refers to the depth of the color, not markings. JMO.

The female in the pic on the left is still coloring up and she is a year old. That pic was at 4 months.

Ok thanks. So when do citruses normally stop coloring up? I am getting one thats 9 months old and supposed to be a super citrus. The one in the picture is my male. I am not sure if he is a tiger, citrus, or super citrus?

Moonstone Sep 08, 2010 10:33 PM

Could be super, pics are always tough. I find citrus take longer than other colors to come into their own.. Nice dragon.
