First shed at home!

curaniel Sep 03, 2010 12:18 AM

Ok, so really not very interesting, but Garnet had her first shed in my care. All in one piece, no shredding, and she had just taken a mouse hopper the day before. I tried pinkie rats with her but she just turns them down flat. All in all, she seems to be adjusting well.

It's good to hear she's doing well.

Sounds good and your 100% accurate humidity gauge (Garnet) is indicating adequate humidity!!

Some do refuse rat pinks, a rare few carry that into adulthood. Keep trying the rat pinks. When the time comes that you rally want to switch her over to rats, let her go hungry a couple of feedings if she won't take the rat. It won't hurt her to skip several meals while trying to transition her.

Sometimes it's easier to give them what they want. Lazarus, one of my male Dumerils is 6 feet long and about 10 pounds. He simply will not take a rat first. I have to feed him a teeny tiny mouse, then follow it up with a large rat. I once went 4 months only offering rats before he out stubborned me. What can I say... He knows what he likes

Ouch... Luckily, my guy let's me sneak in a rat right after the mouse. He just needs his appetizer before the main course.

Wow, that gives me a mental image of a small mouse army marching into the waiting jaws of the Burmese - how else could you do it??
