Hello! I just got my 11-year-old daughter her first leopard gecko, and took advice I'd read and got her an older one. They told me this girl is almost adult - she's 6 inches long, very pretty, and very sweet.
My daughter and I got the Manual, and we've been researching online together, but I do have a couple questions.
First, I've been feeding her 6 adult crickets every other day (tried mealworms, but she wouldn't touch them), but she's only eating 2. It's just dawned on me today that she's nocturnal, and I've been feeding her like my beardies - crickets during the day, and carefully taking them out at night so they don't harm her. Should I be feeding her crickets at night and removing extras in the morning? Is every other day (or night) 6 crickets right for her? I've also got a shallow water dish in with her, she's in a ten gallon with a hide over an undetank heater, and a wet hide on the cooler side. Her substrate is calcuim sand, and her wet hide is a plastic container with a big hole in the side with moistened vermilite. I also have a red night bulb over the warm side, keeping that side at around 87F. I'm leaving the light on all the time to keep her temps up, is that right?
I'm giving her only spring water right now - is that what she needs, or is tap water fine?
Also, she had been in the tank at the pet store with a male leusitic (white with blue eyes?) for about a week. He was smaller than her. Should I be watching for eggs? She's stayed in her wet hide even since I gave it to her, so I'm thinking either egg-laying behavior or maybe a shed coming up?
Thanks in advance for any advice or comments!
