Gene Crossings Chart

Johnenewt1 Sep 05, 2010 04:34 PM

Hi everyone. I'm new to the genes area of beardies and would like to know the gene percentages of babies from the following pairings when they mate together. I am sure there are many people in the community who would also like to know this info. as well. I have not included any "Hets" for anything, as there are bazillions of combinations. For now, I would like to keep it simple. Would someone in the industry who has time and experience in breeding various beardies please fill in the blanks below. For example: after each "=" sign, type: 50% Hypos and 50% Translucents, etc. Thank you for your help!

John

You're kidding right? I don't think anyone here has the time. Google Punnett Square and research genetics. You could also read old posts here.

No. Did you see anywhere in my post "Just Kidding"? I received a response from a breeder that she is going to work on it, so yes, some people do have the time.

Basic genetic Punnet Squares can be found with a simple google search. It doesn't matter what morph or animal the genetics are applied to, all that is really needed is to know whether a trait is recessive, dominant or co-dominate. That and whether some traits affect the same gene. I don't remember off hand whether the American Leather and Italian Leather morphs are compatible (ie breeding an American Leather to an Italian leather produces a totally different kind of 'leather'(silkies?) or just normals, or one or the other (as I think the two 'leathers' are different, one has less scales as the other).

In cornsnakes, the stripe and motley morphs are expressions of the same allele in a gene pair. Thus, you can only have one or the other showing in the animal, not both.

I see a lot recesieve Italian LB ! They don't exist.

Go to this site and look at genetics. It's verry usefull if you want to learn about genetics

Well Johnny, it is not that breeders don't have the time, it is more likely they can't answer your questions.

and...recessive leather does exist.
