Hatchling rack tub size?

blankminded Sep 06, 2010 06:10 PM

I'm thinking about building a hatchling rack for next season. I was thinking about using 6qt tubes but was wondering what size tubs you guys prefer. Any and all advice would be great.

6 qt. is the standard size most commercial rack manufacturers use for hatchling racks. However, not all 6qt. boxes are the same size. Rubbermaid boxes may be slighlty different in dimension from Sterlite, Iris, etc. For newly hatched snakes, you can keep them in larger deli cups til they get established. Usually after a month or two of established feeding, you can put them in something the size of a 6qt. box and they will continue to feed well. The 6qt boxes will allow you to house them for up to six month to a year depending on how fast they grow. I would say at least up to 2 to 2.5 feet long.
