somethin respiratory goin on,

Nikki22 Sep 25, 2003 10:00 AM

Hey guys,
My 41/2 year old tortoise has something going on. No discharge or anything, Just kinduv a wheezing noise when he breaths. Other than that he is normal, very active healthy looking.

He's on antibiotics (gentamicin)

This sound familar to anybody?

He got too cold two nights in a row (bad momma). I was building a new habitat and he was in a pet porter at night. I didn't realize my house was either on heat or cool so the heat wasn't kicking on at night.

Anyway just wondering what people with more experience think.

Thanks,
Nikki

Once again, heat and hydration. Set up a heat lamp and make sure there is plenty of water.
Sounds a lot like 'keep warm and drink plenty of fluids'.

Thanks Ed,
I remedied the situation as soon as I figured out what was going on. I will be more careful next time his habitat is under construction!

I get this happening with my redfoot if the humidity gets too low. I soak her a bit more increase the humidity and temps a bit and it's gone. At first I was freaking that it was respiratory infection and no matter what couldn't get one drop of mucus out of her.

I am not really sure if this would be the same for a sulcata as they are more dry loving torts but I can't imagine some warm soaks and extra heat would hurt.
