KMGH (Denver, Colorado) 01 September 10 Tourists Get Chance To Swim With Giant Croc (Thomas Hendrick)
Australia's newest tourist attraction is not for the faint of heart.
The Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin invites everyday people to swim with giant saltwater crocodiles.
Tourists are lowered into a tank full of crocs, among them suspected man-eaters, wearing nothing more than a mask, snorkel and swimsuit or trunks, reported the London Telegraph.
Guarding the swimmers from the ferocious teeth of the crocodile is a hexagonal-shaped acrylic cage called the Cage of Death.
The cage is specially designed to prevent crocodiles from getting a grip on it with their teeth. Safely inside, tourists can come within a few feet of several 'salties' measuring more than 16 feet long.
A maximum of two tourists are allowed inside the cage, which is lowered into one of four separate crocodile enclosures. Visitors can come up for air and then dive back down and swim with the crocs.
One of the bigger crocodiles, Burt, measures 15 feet long and was the star of the first "Crocodile Dundee" film. Also featured is Snowy, an albino crocodile who is suspected of having killed and eaten a man.
While the Cage of Death is designed to be crocodile proof, visitors have to sign a form, which warns of the risks of panic attacks, hyperventilation, nervous shock and even cardiac arrest, which might occur on coming face to face with one of nature's most deadly predators.
