Brumate adult in sweater box?

ShadyLady Sep 07, 2010 09:27 PM

Is a sweater box too small to brumate an adult corn? I brumated a few in ten gal aquariums last year and they did fine. A sweater box is more confining, tho. What do ya'll think?

The larger sweater boxes like rubbermaids, etc..are fine. I would actually think that most sweater boxes have a tad bit more square area of floor space than a ten gal. aquarium. Height is not very useful to begin with for a snake that is going to be far less active brumating anyway, so they will work just fine.

A standard 10 gallon has 20 x 10 inches of floor space.
The sweaterboxes I use have 21 x 14 inches of floor space.
As Doug mentioned, height doesn't matter much.
I keep (and brumate) my corns in sweaterboxes.

I meant the 14 x 9 size.

I have used six quart shoe boxes to brumate adults. The less movement by the snake the lower the calories burned. Worked well. did this several seasons. Kept them in a small "dorm" refrigerator kept at 50 degrees. Too many now so I use standard sweater boxes and brumate in the basement.
