Hypo Snows?

dlwise Sep 08, 2010 10:03 PM

Does anyone know if it possible to tell if a snow hatchling also is hypo? One of my clutches this year with both parents het for hypo had a high percentage of snows and I was thinking about keeping a couple for possible test crosses if there was any way to tell. Any thoughts?

there's no way to be sure without breeding, though your chances are strong with those parents.

From what I understand, 'hypos' are snakes with very reduced dark pigment (melamine). Since snow corns are double recessives, amel and anery...there is no dark pigment (due to being amel (no dark pigment), so basically only way to tell if they are hypo is to breed them.

Melamine is sheet/shelving building material, but we know what you meant(melanin)..LOL!

Melamine is just a tad different than black pigmentation.

LOL definitely meant melanin....but you have to admit melamine and melanin...very similar in spelling...I will have to remember 'shelving is 'mine' and dark pigment is 'NIN'....yeah, that should stick better.

You can probably find it in black if you searched hard enough.
