NORTHERN TERRITORY NEWS (Darwin, Australia) 07 September 10 Monster croc lurking at crossing (Sarah Crawford)
A monster croc, measuring about five metres (16.4 feet), is on the loose at Goyder River Crossing, but despite warnings people are still swimming in the area.
In the past month two salties measuring more than three metres each have been caught in a trap at Goyder River Crossing, 120 km north of the Bulman community on the Central Arnhem Highway.
But the big fella has not taken the bait.
Police from the Gapuwiyak community reported sightings of the mega saltie to Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife rangers.
The police have been monitoring and rebaiting the trap for the past two months. Yesterday three rangers captured a 3.3 metre male crocodile in the trap. A 3.1 metre male estuarine crocodile was trapped last month.
Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife ranger John Burke warned people to be on the look out for the crocodile.
"It is possible that it is still in the area and locals swimming in the area may be at risk so we urge the public to be vigilant of the presence of crocodiles," he said.
