Super duper dwarf boas.

jazzmachine Sep 10, 2010 11:01 PM

I posted these on a local club we belong to, but hoping for some more exposure/ideas here:

We got these around 3 years ago as babies. They have been fed regularly, and they shed as well regularly. However as you can see they are not even close to the size of a 3 year old boa, regardless of locale.

Hoping people can offer opinions on them. *Nevermind the movie selection*
Also they came in as Costa Rican Dwarf boas, but who knows...

They just may be a new dwarf. i have a pair of venezualan dwarf boa and they have been fed regularily and are the same size as those shown and mine are over 3 years of age. for people who live in limited space but love the red tails, these boas are just right. Gus Renfro is the man who is an expert on pure locales and also most dwarf boas as well....maybe he can enlighten us about the above dwarfs.

Alright to answer the questions.

Pictures are of the male and female.

Temperment is alright, good days bad days I guess. Though in the last 6-8 months they have become a little more defensive for some reason.

Could the people who responded about having similar sized animals mind posting pics of theirs as well? I would like to see some comparisons if possible.

Thanks...

Kevin

Here is a baby columbian born may 8th and a CA male I bought last Haloween.

How do their temperments seem to be?

DavidTetreault Sep 11, 2010 12:44 PM

I have a CA male that is the same way. He is a year old and is smaller than my 4 month old col. babies.

I have noticed that a many of my Nics don't grow very quickly until they reach 3-4 years old, then they hit a wicked growth spurt.

Although most of my Nics are much larger I do have a few teeny-weenies....

Here is a 4 year old male:

He bred this little girl, who is now 5 years old:

She gave birth to a nice little litter of 6 this summer

For comparison, here is a picture of her with normal sized adult Nic (the dark one is a 5 foot male, in shed):

And this girl is three now, but is going through one of those growth spurts I mentioned:

This little guy is three now, and seems to be growing about the same as his littermates, but they are all tiny in comparison to the others boas that came from this locale....

All of the ones I posted are terrific feeders...I do have a few males that are very picky feeders, that have stayed small as a result.
