eye issues?

po Sep 12, 2010 12:12 PM

hey!
just got another beardie dumped on me, the story I got was that she was bought as a proven breeder, but came to the guy in crap shape. Im going to try to get her healthy and adopt her out.

My top concern is her eyes, she seems to keep them closed as if they hurt, she is active considering her low BCS, but when going for food she seems to not want to open her eyes and focus well enough to get much, hasn't caught any crickets over the last 24 hrs, going to try worms today. Eyes do not appear to have any discharge, but I am going to try a saline flush to see if that helps. I don't want to bother my herp vet friend on the weekend, will get in touch with him this week, but thought Id put this up in case anyone thinks of something I haven't!

thanks!

What type of UVB bulb was she exposed to, do you know ? Some of the coil types burn their eyes. As for feeding, try holding the crickets for her, even put them up to her mouth...you could even try crushing them a bit and rubbing them on her mouth so even if she can't see them she can taste them and that might get her to eat. She really needs a trip to a herp vet if she's in bad shape.I hope she recovers !

not sure what kind of light, if any, she had before, she was given to me by the guy who bought her from someone else...
sucks to rescue!
will get her to eat the best i can today, my "herp vet" has retired, but hes nice enough to check up on my rescues when i need him, its usually to just confirm what Im already thinking (Im a vet tech with 14 years of herps)
will also get a fecal run on her, hasn't had on as far as I know.

I'm on the same page with UVB causing eye problems and have personally seen it with rescues in the past. I would not offer any UVB for a week and see if there is improvement. There should be noticeable dramatic improvement if this is the issue.

If there is not then I would consider antibiotic eye drops at the minimum. Some BD's seems to be prone to eye issues.

well vet friend & I took a good look, not sure what caused it but eyes irritated, small amt of discharge so we are going with ab eye drops, after a good flushing with saline. as for uv, unfortunately the quarantine situation leaves her in my dining area, b/c of cats I try to limit bulbs to a bare min, so for her a few days a week outside for a bit will be her uv!
so far eating better, not good, but better, fingers crossing!!
