Update on some Pied Combo's

PiedPeddler Sep 13, 2010 02:08 PM

We finally had a few days below 100 degrees and there was actually a cloud in the sky so I took a few pictures of one of the yellowbelly pieds outdoors post-shed. Also I had promised to follow up with eye pictures of the lesser pied. Last but not least, a picture of our latest combo clutch with a Spied and a Coconut Pie!

Yellowbelly Pied, AKA Pumpkin Pied

This Lesser Pied eye color is really tough to figure out. They are very reflective and there is really no discernible color other than seeing red in the pupil if you look at it just right. It is my opinion that because the eyes are a little smaller, the pupils tend to be open wider so the red color or the reflections dominate the eye color.

This is what I get when I use the flash indoors... A reflection from the flash.

Here is a picture taken indoors under a fairly bright fluorescent light. You can see a hint of what may be pale lesser eye color around the large pupil.

And next is a picture taken outdoors.

And finally here is our latest clutch: 3 Pieds, 3 Spider Het Pieds, 1 Spied, and 1 Coconut Pie!

Thanks for looking!
- Paul

Those are all incredible!
I wish the Spider Pied had more Pattern. I think the Spider Pattern would look nice on it.
Still, amazing animals.
What exactly is a Coconut Pied?

What exactly is a Coconut Pied??

Besides being, I assume, that blazing all-white snake in the group photo.

Congrats on soooo many great Pied combos!

I'm still trying to find out why there are so many names for these. They are pure white spider pieds with very dark (look black to me) eyes. I think Steve Roussis produced one in '07 and called it "White Wedding". I have seen one referred to internationally as "Coconut", and have noticed Steve now uses both "White Wedding" and "Coconut Pie" on his site. I don't know if the genetics are fully understood at this time, but I don't think there are many of them out there. There is a lot I don't know about them, but I do know that mine is a boy and I'm really happy to have him!

Hey Paul hows it going? Congrats on the all white spider pied. We are going to start seeing them pop out more and more now that there is a lot more people producing spider pieds. Steve produced his and called it a white wedding but wasnt sure what it was. Now we have seen a few people pop them out now. Greg Graziani just produced one also. There is just different degrees of spider pieds with some being all white. I also produced a male a few years ago. Take care. Paul
