where to get cheap Tank and maybe a friend

brokermonkey Sep 25, 2003 12:49 PM

hi, i know i posted about the waterland tubs, but i went into the archives and i was looking at all of your setups----i sorta want an aquarium.

do you know where i can get a cheap, large aquarium? i have a 10 gallon for my 5 yr old res. he/she (still not sure) is only 3 inches long. so its still pretty small. but i'd like a large aquarium.

also...do you think its ok to get it a friend? does it matter which sex? he's been alone for 5 yrs, his friend is a goldfish that lives in the tank (he's never tried eating him). and i'd hate for the new turtle to eat the goldfish. i mean, i could buy two goldfish and put them in a seperate tank(im fine with that) im just wondering if the turtle and goldfish would miss each other or something.

please respond.. i feel so lost about this.
bye
cathy

shouldnt have two males as your only two turtles in one tank. If you had more females than males like 4 to 1 in a large tank, then "usually" its ok. Females can be paired together and a male a female should be fine. No your turtle will not miss your goldfish, i guarentee if you were to hold them up in front of your turtle he would take bites out of him.

I've unknowingly had two males together since they were babies--they are about a year old now. I just found out that Daisy was a boy when she (um...he) showed me his stuff. I'll never look at her (him) the same. Anyway, they almost never fight but they do flutter at each other all the time. Daisy is much bigger and sometimes she (he) gets snippy at Tom if he is pestering her too much. Can I expect fighting in the future?

Two males do fine together, unless a female is introduced, then they may fight over the female. My males have been together for four years, and do flutter at each other, but not aggressive behavior or fighting.

I guess youd have to put where you live to find a place to get a cheap large aquarium, but in kansas city it kinda goes like this. 10 gal-$7 at walmart, 20 gal long about $30 at pet store. 55 gal about $90-$100. anything larger it starts really going up. I got my 120G H at Pet World in Lawrence, KS for $219, pretty good price from what ive seen. Most 125 gallons I checked on were $300 , and I cant see paying that much more for another 5 gallons.

Those prices are tank only, picked up at store.

You may try the classifieds in your town, but generally people selling big tanks also want to sell all the accessories and you end up getting a bunch of crap you dont want for more money than just a tank wouldve cost.
