There is this little metal key sort of thing you'll asseble on top- you turn left or right to warm up/cool down. You don't need a rheostat.

The only thing I don't like about my hovabator is that it will seek the temp of the room. On hot days (over 80 degrees) the incubator will climb to something close to the room temp since it does not have a built in cooling function.

Hi,

The hovabator will come with a wafer thermostat... it is not the most accurate temperature control device in the world, but in most cases it will get the job done.

You need to put in in the most stable room in your house, as the thermostat has a tendancy to rise and fall with room temps.

Ex: Lets say my room temp is at 78*f and at this temp I have the thermostat set to stay near 82*f. Well if my room temp rises to 81*f the wafer thermostat may now keep the hovabator around 84-85*f. The opposite can also happen if your room temp drops.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that the wafer themostat will do the job in most cases, but it's not exactly what I would call accurate. It probably won't fluctuate enough to kill any eggs, but it vary well may fluctuate enough to mess up your temp sexing.

At the very least you will want to get an indoor/outdoor thermometer with a probe so you can make sure it is holding somewhat steady temps.

Good luck with your eggs.

If you want to control the temps even more accurately, you can plug the incubator into a thermostat and run the probe into one of your egg boxes along side the probe for your digital thermometer. Just make sure that you keep your incubator in a room that stays below the temps that you want to incubate at.
