Rainbow upsidedown , do i need to be worried?

stefan82 Sep 25, 2003 01:06 PM

My rainbow has recently started to turn its belly up in the sky in its nest ( on the headpad ) why does it do that, is it something thats not right, or is it just to distribute the heat right or what ? the temp on the hot side is 27-29C, on the cold side its 24C

The humidity in the tank is about 80-90%
The water is changed daily etc..

Do i need to see a vet ASAP?
or is this usual?

Stefan,
. Adult BRBs commonly roll part of their body on the side or upside down. Mine do not usually start to do it until after they are a year old. Your cage temperature and humidity sound good. Are you sure that the snake is around 8 or 9 months old? Not many of them are captive born in January or February. If when it crawls it moves okay and stays upright I would think that it is okay. Neurolgical disorders that cause snakes to roll upside down always seem to effect their ability to move smoothly and maintain a rightside up attitude while crawling.

I have noted that behavior in my rainbows when temperature in their cage is more than 82F thats is just for Brazilian and Argentine.

Im sure that the temps are at MAX 30C and they can handle up to 31-32C .. plus it got choices to move around.. the cold side is about 24-25C..

My rainbow crawls okay it eats okay.. its highly aware of its surroundings, and seems very healthy, my rainbow was born december 2002.. that makes it 9months old.. as of this monday.. she is partitially upside down, and on the "side" as you say, not completeley upside down.. and she has the head the correct way so to say, and when i awoke her today she was slow to start off with, but then slowly woke up.. when i checked later tonight she was in her nest in the same position as earlier.. and it's probably okay, im just checking, cause i dont want any of my animals to suffer just cause i didn't know better..

And im getting her a male and ill raise them together as to yearlings or maybe untill they are 1 1/2 years old.. then separate them into separate tanks and breed them..
( both animals are from the same breeder and CB and treated for mites ( called him and checked when i posted about when i thought it was mites , it was fruity flies in the waterbowl :P )
