One Of Those Unforgetable Clutches

FGS Sep 15, 2010 12:47 AM

A few days ago I cut my last clutch of the year. The season was a season just like most before. It was filled with surprises and some disappointments, but I never expected to hatch out 5 mojaves from a four egg clutch. The father was a gold blush mojave bred to the female normal that produces my buckskin line mojaves.

Here is a video I uploaded on Youtube that will explain the crazy clutch I ended the 2010 season with.

I hope everyone had a great season.

Would the girl on the left count as a buckskin mojave? and do the mojaves themselves also pass along this gene, or is it only the normal that has the influence?

Jason,

Thanks for your comment and great question.

Whenever you breed any two animals together half of the gene pool that creates the babies comes the mother and the other half comes from the father.

Through 6 years of selective breeding I have created 3 distinct lines of mojaves. I call them the gold blush line, the silver and black line and the buckskin line. These mojaves not only have a certain look to them, but also have a distinct pedigree.

My goal for many years has been to re-define what a mojave ball python looks like. It's been through selective breeding that I've been able to create these 3 visually distinct lines.

Here are a couple of photos of some 2010 gold blush mojaves.

Here is a photo showing one of our male breeder gold blush mojaves.

Another thing that has been fun for me as a breeder has been to not only to try and re-define what a mojave looks likes, but because of the generations of selective breeding the normals that are produced from these clutches are just beautiful.

Brian,
That is very cool. 5 mojos out of 4 eggs, can't get sweeter than that. Congrats! Looking forward to seeing the twins when they are out.

were the twins fraternal or identical. Identical twins would be a cool addition to any collection.

Twins!!!!!
