New pic of situla hatchlings

mattkau Sep 15, 2010 01:14 AM

Here are some updated pics of my '10 striped stitula females that hatched for me this summer. I still haven't been able to get them to eat yet, although I haven't tried every trick that I know. Anyone have any suggestions for getting these guys to eat. I've tried live pinks, anoles, and med. geckos. I've also tried frozen pinks.

Great animals!

Anyway ... I'd first try leaving them in an 8 oz. deli overnight with a live pink.

If that doesn't work, I'd try holding them in one hand, and trying to entice them into a "strike feed" of a pink off hemostats.

If that doesn't work either, I'd probably partially assist them, getting the pink to the back of the throat and waiting for the swallow reflex to kick in.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips. One of them ate a fuzzy a couple nights ago, but I didn't have another to offer the other. I set them up in smaller tubs with cypress mulch instead of aspen. I also moved them to my top shelf with less traffic. This seemed to do the trick for one of them anyway. I'm pretty confident that the other will follow suite. If not, I'll force feed a couple times and them hibernate her, atfer which she should eat on her own.
