Agree...looks like crap. The menu bar is a mess, is that a "search the classifieds" behind it??? The huge white spaces to either side is distracting. The kingsnake logo couldn't possibly blend in more. It looks like a little kingsnake ad banner on a different site.

wohlerswi Sep 15, 2010 03:45 PM

I miss the white banner with the kingsnake slithering through it. Jeff B. after so many years don't let them change the original logo! All us originals have been looking at that for 15 years now since it was an alterna based site! I feel like I am surfing on a different off brand kingsnake.com. RIP kingsnake.com I already miss you.

I do agree that the old logo better.
Although, I like the new layout of the whole site.
It seems more modern, sophisticated, and just overall improved.
Thats just my opinon though.

I'm curious what web browser you are using. I'm aware of the classified search dropping behind the menu in IE6, but not in any other browser. Supporting IE6 is not really at the top of our priority list, though adding some code to make the classifieds box fail gracefully on ancient browsers may be worth looking into.

OK this *I* can possibly fix! I had the same issue and this is what resolved it.

If you are using Firefox go to View-> Zoom->Reset. It may be under a different menu on your firefox, but look for Zoom and then Reset.

If you are using something else, lemme know and I will get the fix.

For us technotards (maybe just me) why can I no longer return to the list of classifieds from an individual ad by pushing the back arrow?

PHFaust Sep 15, 2010 10:25 PM

Hurm I dont seem to be having an issue now, perhaps it occurred while things were being worked on or transferred? I just tried it on the ball python forum..

Back arrow from an opened ad takes me to 9/14/10 classified listings, old format.

Kind of a bummer. And honestly, new format is too dense. Spacing on the old format made the list easier to scan. Just one old fart's opinion.

Actually both those sound more like bugs than new features
I was unable to duplicate your "back" issue but I think I see the spacing issue your referring too and that appears to be a bug.
I have asked our tech staff to look into both issues.

jeffb Sep 16, 2010 08:15 AM

Could you try clearing your web browsers cache and then try the "back" routine again and see if the problem persists?

AllBalledUp Sep 16, 2010 09:18 AM

No idea what that meant, but my son did, and it totally worked. Even eliminated the density issue. Thanks very much!

The density issues was resolved because I rolled out some changes just a few minutes ago. Glad thing are working better for you now.

We appreciate the feedback. With so many things going in with the new look and features we are bound to miss some problems (like the classifieds getting all squished). Thanks for letting us know about it.

There are a few things I with to suggest about the new design.

The 'Forum' button...can it be moved or switched with the 'connect?'. I am pretty sure most of the people here use the forum...and though the Connect and Blog features are new and great to have...I think they are better served being more to the right on the navigation bar. So maybe having the navigation in this order will work better:

Home, Forums, Businesses, Classifieds, Photos, Videos, Chat, News, Events, clubs, laws, more...

The 'Share' button...though not a new feature/change, one thing that always bugged me is the mouse over effect.. it linkers too long after the mouse is moved away, and more times than not, I have to wait 5 seconds or so for it to go away so I can click on what it is blocking etc. Can the script be changed so it needs a mouse click to show the 'share' list or at least reduce the time it stays displayed when it does open up?

The main kingsnake page... its too dominated by the slideshow...pretty much all you see is the main banner then a large picture...I think the slideshow should be reduced in size...maybe down to a typical embedded video size. (250x250 px or so). It doesn't take too much work to give an option to view the slideshow full screen or at a larger size. With it reduced, it allows the main page of Kingsnake to show more than just ads, logo and a large picture.

The 'Ads by Google' section in the banner...get rid of it...it makes the site look cheap. It may just be a single banner in itself...but it just looks crappy...better to stick to the more colorful and professionally done banner ads always used by kingsnake in the past.

The big Connect window...I think that should be reduced...i don't think its necessary to have all the options showing. Maybe just the user name, avatar/icon, maybe just connection requests and email and connect home.

Reducing size of the slideshow on the home page, and the Connect box is to reduce the overall size of the 'logo' header. Its good to have a top header, but the site logo really shouldn't be third least important part of the header. It should be the main thing a person sees coming to the home page...then navigation bar, additional features and ads. At least in my opinion.

One other little thing I noticed, is the left/right border has a small break in it near the top after the first group of announcement/ad links about some important event or major sale.

For readers/posters...When pointing out glitches or weird formatting issues (ie buttons behind other buttons, squished text etc) it will be a good idea to include what browser you are using, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc. Include the version (clicking on 'Help' in the browser top menu bar and click 'about 'browser' will bring up a window which will give the current version...usually a series of numbers and dots, such as 'Mozilla Firefox version 3.6.9). Also include your system platform and operating system. (ie Windows XP, Mac OS 10, Linus etc)

The last time the web site design and infrastructure was changed was in 2005. When we changed then some people loved it, some people hated it. Matter of fact every time we change something major that is the way it goes. When you have 180,000 unique visitors every month, you can't please them all. Something I have noted though is that those that complain the most have paid the least, which I always find interesting.

Mr. Yohe the next time we decide to re-design the web site we will be happy to hand you the box of crayons and give you control of the suggestion box incoming emails. You just let us know when you have an extra 6 months to spare.

JYohe Sep 16, 2010 03:23 PM

......I thought personal attacks were prohibited?

yea...whatever....

your name is Jeff....what can I say....?

.......why pay for so many stupid rules that everything is too much trouble from alot of feedback I hear....and along with that I have a job and cannot set at this little lighted box for hours answering little kids stupid questions about a sale....and I just pay people to do that...actually...? how do you know what money you have coming into your pocket?...hmmmm....think about it...snake money gets around thrid hand ,second hand...you may be getting my cash for years.....and may I tell you about the crayons???

.......it don't matter....and I won't comment on the new crap anymore....you don't know where it was going to go today....
