Thoughts on Goini

KevinM Sep 15, 2010 12:29 PM

There have been a few posts lately highlighting the Pinellas Co. kings and IMO they remind me alot of the blothced phase of the appalachicola or "goini" kings. Regardless of the taxonomic status of goini, it is my understanding they are relict florida x eastern locality integrades. Is that pretty much what the Pinellas Co. kings are to some degree??? What are some of you getula guys current thoughts on the (defunct?) goini's these days?

I used to have Kryscos papers saved but deleted them. Someone needs to post them.

Some of the banded "goini" do look like a lot like Florida/Eastern intergrades, but they are not considered to have Florida king influence. Depending on range, they are either considered to be L.g.meansi or L.g.meansi/L.g.getula intergrades.

Not sure I'm in 100% agreement with the elevation to sub-specific status. I think this is a population where the influence of a relic form is more preserved than in other locations. In that regard is deserves sub-specific recognition but it just doesn't seem distinctive or distributed widely enough to warrant separation. Its safe to say its an eastern complex getula with a locality moniker.
