Garters and water ?

Shaky Sep 25, 2003 01:30 PM

I've been involved in an ongoing pseudo-scientific study of garters in my area.
Pseudo-scientific because I really haven't decided on which aspect of the animals or their behaviors to study. However, my experiences have led me to several theories.
For now, however, since the local species, the eastern blackneck, is a bit "different" from others (in that it is mainly an anuran-eater), I have only one question which needs pondering.
Do hatchling/juvenile garters ge all the water they need from their prey?
Several "coincidences" have led me to believe that this may -at least partially-be true.
Any thoughts?

They might be able to live off only the water in their prey, but it is unlikely they would unless there is a shortage (such as in areas with low precipitation). But even then, I would expect they remain pretty near to a source of drinking water. I know if they have water, they will drink, as well as soak. Andy
