roach motel...

DreamWorks Sep 16, 2010 08:16 PM

2 undertank heaters as I stated:

stainless steal bowls I feed out of:

my elaborate roach colony setup:

10 gallon aquarium

the roaches are from south america... when they are loose in your house and exposed to air-conditioning they die in a matter of a few hours if they should escape.

I'm sure your mom believes you when you tell her they die in a few hours but in reality it's not true.

I kept my Dubia colony at room temperature all year in New Jersey. In the winter my house is 66 during the day and cooler at night and I never had any deaths. They don't breed at cool temps but otherwise it doesn't slow them down at all. They still eat and grow and when temps. are warm enough they start breeding again.

that's very true! I kept a little over a hundred tiny nymphs at room temp all winter long last year and they grew up just fine.... But the colony just exploded this spring and summer to thousands and thousands of roaches.

Nice observations cornelious...

I dont keep dubias, mainly lobster roaches.

They (lobsters which you have no experience with) die within a matter of hours if they escape.

I have tile and wood floors.

thanks for your concerns though

I do not know who told you they will die that easy, don't believe it one bit! I do think you run less of a risk of an infestation b/c they need higher temps to breed, but if they get out, they will adapt and survive for at least a while. Lobsters are a risk to keep b/c of how well they climb!
Good luck! they are good food for herps! my kids loved them, but the climbing issue freaked out my husband, so we switched to discoids

You are a man of infinitesimal knowledge.

I think maybe you should look up where the raoches come from. Then you can check the temperature range in that part of the world. I know this is hard for you to understand but if you actually did all that you would see they survive in much lower temperatures than where you live. I'm sorry if this research would be too difficult for you.

You just keep posting your incorrect and uninformed information and I will keep correcting you.

What does "HOW'S THAT HOPE AND CHANGE WORKIN FOR YA?" mean?

chelusfimbriatus Sep 20, 2010 10:50 PM

I think he was referring to Obama..

BDlvr Sep 21, 2010 04:14 AM

I don't know why he would be asking me about Obama. The whole redistributing wealth thing doesn't work for me.

In Cuba they get free health care, free housing, free education, plus a whopping $20 a month per person. That certainly doesn't sound like the American dream to me. But that's where the Democrats want to take us.
