Well...

It does look a lot like a 'regular' hypo, but it's head is still very dark black.

See what it looks like after a shed.

hypo-e, or hypo-erythristic, is a reduction of red pigmentation - yet not totally absent.

i have a hypo-e sinaloan (or trade named 'pumpkin') from nathan wells. he told me that they continue to lose the red throughout their lives and he has a geriatric male that now is almost white.

Hypo means reduced
E stands for Erythrin
Thus reduced Erythrin......Hypoerythristic.....
Just like the Hypo-E Sinoloans, Mex Mex, Agalma and truly the Anery Hondos are Hypo-E rather than anery.....

Alterna tend to throw what look like hypo-e snakes.......but isn't really hypo-e at all. I think it would beharder to determine hypo-erythristic in alterna because we're judging ONLY at a shade of color with no other determining factors.

From what I've seen over the years the Pumpkin sinaloae, for example, have pure white between their black bands and the red is a very faded pinkish-like color....whereas a normal sinaloae has, or course, the red coloration and an off-whitish/cream almost yellow color between the black. Here's an example in zonata agalma below:

Note the distinction in pure white versus yellowish coloration, as well as a salmon-like color which will fade over time.........

Which will inevitably turn into this..........

........versus this..............

Here's another hypo-e........

.....versus a normal lighter orange which technically ISN'T a hypo-e snake..........

I think it's a tough call, but nonetheless a GORGEOUS specimen you popped there buddy. Incredible snake indeed no doubt about it. I'd hold that one as well as the sibs and see what happens in years to come. Can't hurt, that's for sure.

Thank you all for the kind words thus far.

I've attached an older picture of the dam...

She's an '07, and her bands have continued to fade over time (pic is roughly a year old). I'll try and snap a new pic when I get the chance, as she is indeed quite a bit lighter now.

Again, thanks everyone!

Cooooooel.

I don't normally care too much for the gray bands, but those are very attractive. And you taught me something, to boot!

I've never known one personally, so I will have to trust you about the personality. It's just that the gray/orange color combo doesn't do much for me. To each their own!
