Axanthics?

tannerflowers Sep 18, 2010 02:38 PM

I just came in and had a clutch of three eggs hatching. The breeding was an albino to a possible het albino. Out of the three eggs, none were albino, but two of the three are completely black and silver while the other is a golden brown like most all normals and hets. The one that was already out of the egg has completely clean sides and like I said is completely a silver color. There is no comparison between the one and the other two. Has anyone experienced this before?

Pics would help but from what I have seen it sounds like they are showing the het traits. There have been a few people to hatch out albino hets that will look alot like axanthics once they shed they will lose this look. Maybe someone else who has actually hatch some of these out will chime in..

Compare snakes 1 and 3 to the one still in egg. Once again, these are from an albino ball python to a possible het ball python. All 3 snakes are 100% het albino. The picture doesn't illustrate how silver they are in person.

You have dicovered the yellow blush gene in your albino stock. Your albino is either a yellow blush albino or albino het for yellow blush. Your het is het for yellow blush and possible double het for albino too.

The "axanthic" looking snake is the yellow blush gene. It is a seperate simple recessive proven back in 1999.

Markus Jayne had similar results thus year.

Hope that helps.

I have never heard of the "yellow blush" gene. What is the visual morph? Is it simply an albino, or is there a super form? I'm sorry for possibly asking too many questions, but are you insisting that the two axanthic looking babies are actually the "yellow blush" morph? Thanks in advance.

blushing amels...it's just albino that is the opposite of high contrast....they get low contrast alot of times with a yellow head...and blushed sides...(brighter yellow highlights around the side patterns)....
anyways...
the blushed can be het or amel...blushed amel look like snows when hatched...then turn yellower as they shed...blushed hets look like axanthics...they'll turn brown /regular pretty quickly

THERE IS a slight possibility that you have actual axanthics...but don't get too excited....if they are they will stay axanthic looking for a long time not just a couple sheds...

I just hatched Enchi blushed albinos...they look like red axanthics almost with a weird enchi stain ...pattern...etc...
I know...no pics...might work on it...

....anyways...you have 2 nice het amels probably...good luck getting 2 females on that....they'll be worth alot more then ...(25$ instead of 15$..amel market sucks)LOL...

.good luck...

As I stated above this yellow blush, false axanthic, anery.... It goes by a few names.... This gene is a simple recessive proven in 1999. Now simple recessive means no super. The visual yellow blush, false axanthic or anery...what ever you want to call it is the homozygous form of this gene.

I believe Jeff(JYohe), below, ment to call them anery since amel is albino.

I think you have all the info you need. Take care!

Well guys I sure do appreciate the info. I knew something was definitely different with those two snakes. I had never heard of the ''yellow blush'' gene before. Does anyone know if they are worth plugging into other morphs to lighten/brighten color patterns? Or are they basically aboust as good as any other 100% het albino? Thanks again for the information!

I haven't heard of any other combo until JYohe posted "blushed" enchi het albino above. The breeding he posted is confusing to me. I can't always totally understand his posts.

I plan on seeing what it does to a few projects in the future.

Well thanks again Alan! I may hold them back and do a few tinker projects in the future.
