That's an awesome cage by the way! Your iguana will enjoy living in it! Thanks for posting the picture!
Thanks.
If you don't mine me asking.... What are you planning to put in there? ...a green iguana, Cyclura, or Ctenosaura?
As a rescue I only get what people don't want. A few years ago I took in a very large male Green Iguana from a school. He weighs 17 pounds. He is the largest I or my vets has ever seen in person. Tom Crutchfield has a 20 lb. one on his website so bigger ones do exist.
I put him in the new enclosure permanently last Saturday. Animals are funny, I had been putting him in it for short periods of time for days but he still wanted to go back to his old much smaller home every time.
Yesterday I let him out around the house and left the door to his old cage open. He never went in. Eventually went back to his new home.
I have 2 other empty Iguana size cages now. I'm probably going to take in an female adult.
great work Cornelius

Why were some of the posts deleted?
There were questions that were asked that were never answered.
What's up with that? Did they violate TOS???
Just curious. Didn't know asking questions had your post removed.
I think they were deleted because the poster used a title something like hey cheapshot artist so they deleted all those posts.
If you have a question ask it again and I will be happy to answer.
Ah. Ok.
Thanks. I was asking about the windows, and how they void the UVB, and allow more UVA in. Maybe they are a special glass or something? Also, in what direction does it face? If the windows do let UVB in, are they facing a certain direction? Just curious.
Thanks for the clarification, and nice set-up. Cheers.
Yes standard glass blocks usable UVB. The windows would have to be open for him to get UVB. The main UVB source is a MVB on the basking site on top of the ramp.
Unfortunately he will have to wait until next summer to make any significant use of the natural sunlight. The temps. have cooled enough here in New Jersey that I can't leave the windows open most days or the enclosure becomes too cool.
He's also pretty freaked out by the strange outside noises (cars, people, pets) when the windows are up so he stays far away from them. Next summer when they can be open all day and night he'll be able to get used to the sounds.
My house faces west so he gets the afternoon sun and lots of it.
Quite an impressive Ig cage. As its on an external wall, you could always add an exterior screen cage for your ig(s) to use during warm summer days.
Not sure how much UVB will be able to get into an open window...though if you have a west facing window, direct sunlight will get into the room. A reflector may be a good idea on the opposite wall, if the basking area isn't in the right location to receive the sunlight as it comes through the window at an angle (depending on how high the sun is at that moment and if trees etc. are in the way).

The window shelf gets about 4 hours of direct sunlight in the dead of winter, 7 in the summer. Some of the UVB would be blocked by the insect screen but it is still way more than any bulb would put out.
I don't think an outdoor cage on the front of my house would go over well in my neighborhood. lol.
Good to know. Thanks for answering my questions.
