Help identifying this hondo

KangasKritters Sep 18, 2010 09:26 PM

I received this honduran milksnake from a friend and am not exactly sure what it is. He thought it was an extreme hypo, but I don't think so. Please help.

That is indeed a hypo tri-colored Honduran, but it doesn't even come CLOSE to being an extreme hypo. That is a typical tricolor hypo phenotype(look).

These are true extreme hypos, and they can also come in tri-color form as well. These happen to be tangerine extremes. The coined name "extreme" has to do with the GREATLY reduced dark pigment(melanin) within the pigment cells known as melanophores. It is so greatly reduced in the extremes that it is a very light silvery gray, to sometimes a very light greenish gray coloration. The eyes are also deep ruby-red, also due to the great melanin reduction within the pigment cells.

extreme pair breeding

another breeding (smaller male is the extreme)

here is a very clean tri-colored hypomelanistic Honduran similar to the one you have. All normal tri-colored hypos develop a substancial amount of dark scale "tipping" as they mature, and this nice one is no exception. She is also getting more as she matures.

I knew it wasn't an extreme hypo because I've drooled over those for some time now. Hypo Tri-color fits the look of this snake perfectly. Thanks!

hey: when did you start taking such great photos? did you get a new camera?

kangaskritters Sep 22, 2010 05:05 PM

Just got lucky on this one. Usually my photos are not very good and when people receive reptiles they've bought from me they're very pleased.

No, This is the same one I've had for several years now.

So are you saying I took thousands of crappy pics up until this post??..LOL!

Doug,
If you were replying to me I was simply replying to the message about me getting a new camera, which I didn't. I don't take the best pics and it probably prevents me from getting more money for my reptiles. I have nothing but respect for you so hopefully I didn't offend you somehow.
Thanks,
Charlton

Oh, not at all man!,...I was simply goofing with Terry because his comment about the camera looked like it was in a reply to my post..LOL!. It's sometimes tough to know exactly who is responding to who depending on where the reply is posted..HAHAA!

Anyway, yeah, I was only joking about what I said there, I wasn't upset in the least about any of it. All is good!

later man!, ~Doug
