Sacramento reptile show

rbichler Sep 19, 2010 09:19 AM

Sacramento reptile show was jumping yeterday, Sat the 18th. I would say it was almost twice the size of last years.
Lots of reptiles and people. I didn't get any pictures, but maybe someone will post some.

Guess if I drove like a speeding ticket waiting to happen I could still get to the last couple hours of today's show. Am saving my snake budget money for a special purchase, though. Am glad to hear the show did well this year, in spite of the miserable economy.

Large attendance doesnt necessarily mean good sales unfortunately!! I am seeing lots of ooglers and thrill seekers going to the shows to kill a few hours and see neat things. However, I am NOT seeing folks walking around the shows with stacks of delicups and bags like they were doing a few years ago. I think the recent shows have been GREAT for the promoters with door attendance, but not so great for the vendors.

I did notice, average snake prices were some what lower then last year on colubrids.

Yes, for sure!! There were a couple of vendors at the Repticon show in Baton Rouge selling proven adults, especially corns, at very reduced prices. The economy is seeing many getting out of the breeding business or switching gears from certain colubrids to boids or other more marketable/profitable colubrids. Even the boids like ball pythons and common boas are dirt cheap now for CB animals. The show attendance was great. I am not sure if enough vendors did well enough though to warrant doing the show again. Many folks came out due to hearing the show advertised and were curious, but were not in the market to buy IMO.
