cigarette smoke and sliders/question

lostboy540 Sep 25, 2003 02:56 PM

does anyone know the effect of second hand smoke and the effect it has on chelions, not to mention on there enviroment. Obviously smoke isnt good for them but any senerio or sudjested ventilation process would be much apreciated; bare in mind attempting to ventilate the room will remove the toxic air, but will also bring in cold air

I was wondering the same thing! I wish someone would answer me, I also am curious about marijuana smoke.

LOL, Herperson! Maybe if you just shared some of that *smoke* with the turtle, it'd be a much happier little reptile! JK. Unfortunately, I don't have answers for ventilation questions about any kind of smoke. I would imagine it wouldn't be that good for them, but then again, can't the RES get some oxygen out of the water, too?

well we know it kills many kinds of plants (though it helps some others apparently0 and it causes serious problems in every kind of mammal tested.
granted reptile lungs are a little different but i am sure any smoke of any kind is bad for eyes and lungs of them as well.
there is at least one vert ( aherp vet) who visits these forums and posts, and there may well be more.
So ask this question on the general turtle forum and see if you get a reply...i would not be at all surprised if some study HAS been done.
I would try to do the smoking outside the house (in general...it wil decrease the depreciation value of your house and save the lungs of smokers and non smokers alike) or at least outside the turtle's room
blocking vents from central air/heat to the room might help.

yeah, all cigarrettes are outside of the house. Although our activeness in the counter culture in the U.S. makes it hard to smoke other things on an apartment doorstep

depends where you live i guess....
but i do understand the need to hide certain actions.
just try to find a way to not make the animals suffer though
that will just give two groups a bad name (besides, you know, making the animals suffer)

You could always go outside to smoke...I know you said it was cold out there, but it will be good for you too. You'll smoke less.

To herperson: I can't imagine that marijuana smoke would be any worse than cigarettes; possibly it would even be the lessor of the two evils since it doesn't have all those added chemicals like cigarettes do...unless you're adding stuff to your joints.

Be blessed.
