Pond Predation

What are some methods to prevent raccoons and other predators from preying on fish and turtles?

You must put a Raccoon proof barrier around the entire area. Not easy if of any size. Large Herons may fly in and eat all your fish, too.
A few materials to consider - hog pen wire, horse pen wire, hardware cloth, chicken wire, corrugated sheet metal...sufficiently buried and of sufficient height. You must have a horizontal lip-over top barrier to any wire. Can't have access from trees either.
Lots to consider. I hear Raccoons can't resist jam in live traps.
