Incubators

new2thisworld Sep 21, 2010 07:25 PM

I am looking to buy an incubator and am wondering what products other people use.

Natures Spirit- Not being sold right now and thats what I had planned on using, now I'm in a bind and would like to know other peoples experiences with other incubators so that I can find one that will be a good fit for my snakes.

Make your own... it is easier than you would think. A cooler, or if you need more room, a closet. A good thermostat, a backup, a heat source. It can be as easy or as complicated as you would like. My walk in incubator cost a total of about $250, holds over 60 clutches and maintains a perfect 88 degrees.

Let me get a pic or two, nothing special really, just a closet with wire shelving, some heat lights in a box, some fans and lined with Styrofoam insulation. I do not worry about humidity because I use peralite with "egg crate" on top, all the humidity is in the box, not the incubator.

I built one from a $50 wine fridge off Craigslist.
Will hold probably close to 10-12 clutches.

Homemade is the way to go wether its walkin closet or an upright freezer like i use.

The most expensive part of a homemade incubator is the thermostat. The glass in the door isn't a necessity but im kinda nosy and wanna see whats goin on without disturbing the clutch too much

(thats my first bumblebee clutch in there now)

Here's mine. I'm adding another fan blowing up, moving the fan in there to the right, and I replaced the glass panel in the bottom with a wire rack....so the air can get through.
