Selling Reptiles

wccs2001 Sep 23, 2010 11:35 AM

so i have a small clutch of leopard gecko eggs that i was thinking of hatching (instead of feeding to my snakes) and selling to the local mom and pop pet store if they're interested.

before i call them, i need to know am i even allowed to sell them? do i need to get a business license? i live in georgia, usa, and haven't been able to find anything online saying i do or don't need a license.

i won't be selling a huge amount each year as about half the clutch will need to be pulled back for food and lack of space (i only have room for raising 6 at a time).

thanks so much!

It depends on your local municipality's ordinances. Some may require you to obtain a business license, while others do not.

in most cases "barter" is legal tender, you may be able to trade geckos for other goods and avoid the hassle of filing taxes ect.

I did that in Fla after getting out of breeding full time and not having enough babies to keep up on $ for tax reasons and stuff.
