Dragons eating each other??

dafog Sep 25, 2003 04:09 PM

My friend just called and said his 1yr old female got out of her cage and found her way into the tank of his 4 month old dragon. The 4 month old is no where to be found so we assume the larger female has eaten it. Precautions have been taken to ensure this newly acquired female doesn't escape again, but will she be okay? He has no internet still and asked me to post this for him. Isabel really messed things up around here.. this just ads to the bad news.

The female is huge. I don't know the exact size, but the missing dragon was the smallest he has. I'd say about 6". There were 2 others in the tank that were left alone. Those are 2 months older than the missing one and about twice as large.

His main concern at this point is whether or not thie female will die from doing this. Thanks for the quick reply btw.

at 6 inches she might be alright, just watch for signs of impaction, make sure to keep her hydrated and perhaps for the next few days offer her only her greens.. you can give her a few drops of mineral oil just as a precaution to make sure things are moving through, but make sure to keep her well hydrated, you can even give her some acidophiliz (get it at petsmart) its a digestive tract conditioner, anything to help i say. i would double check her basking temps to be sure they are correct and even up them a couple degrees if they are around 105, get them up perhaps to around 110 to aid in digestion, if she wont sit at that hot you can lower them down a bit to where she is comfortable.

They do it in the wild..I would just keep an eye on her and make sure she doesn't show signs of impaction.

She should be OK, unless the other dragon had parasites of any kind..
