Premature BRB Litter

Jeff Clark Sep 24, 2010 12:01 AM

Canuma had an expected delivery date around 10 october 1st. I came home from shooting pool tonight and she was out of her hide and seemed to be trying to deliver the last of a litter of babies.

Where is the litter?

Here they are under the kraft paper. Six premature babies and 4 slugs. I knew this was going to be a small litter. I suspected it would have slugs because I had not been able to find many fetal heart tones using the doppler. Some were still alive when I found them though I do not know how long it was since they had been delivered. I broke the membranes to let their heads out so they could breath. They would react and breath when touched but would not continue breathing. Looking at how much yolk material is remaining and how colorless they are they do seem to be 4 days to a week premature. I have only rarely had any survive when they were delivered looking this premature. Canuma has still not delivered the rest of the litter. I will stay up tonight and see if I can help any of the rest of her litter.

Cliff,
....She is retaining two masses. Probably two slugs but I was waiting patiently as hurrying her might have resulted in delivery of two more premies. Probably time to soak her though listening with the doppler first might be the better idea. Wonder why I did not think of that already?
