Return of a king...

CrimsonKing Sep 25, 2010 04:03 PM

...a friend got this male from me and obviously cared for him well....He's now decided to focus more on other species, so brought him back.
Maybe wasn't a keeper for me then but since I no longer have his father, it's great to get him back into the mix....

I don't often get to see them after they leave...

Dang Mark, That is smokin! I'm a lttle puzzled though as to what it is? If it's a Goins, then it's the best patternless goins I've seen. It looks like it may have a faint striped pattern but hard to tell. I thought it was a speckled but the face doesn't look like a speck to me. I bet you are happy to get it back, lol.

Thanks Tom. It's good to see 'em after a year. I gave this to a buddy as a hatchling and I'm pleased to see how it's turned out. I was on the right track, I guess...

Thats a great picture. For some reason I have a hard time seeing the true beauty in snakes unless they are photoed in a natural setting like that. Not sure if that pattern is possible in the wild, but it still makes for a very nice photo.

RossCA Sep 26, 2010 02:10 AM

Yeah, very possible in the wild. lol I love those kings. I thought this was some kind of patternless South Florida king. I've never seen a patternless AP king this color but of course I don't study them as closely as others do. Great looking snake!

Thanks Ross. He's from the line I had been working with to intensify the red/color in adults. His father was the key animal in that project but sadly I lost him last year. I did keep some of this snake's sibs that are a little better looking but this one is a bit larger so might get to breed next season.

Awesome picture.

WOW Mark! absolutely stunning animal... he looks a nice golden color (wish you sold him to me!... you'd never get him back!)... Great Photo as well!

My Adult Blaze randomly died on me last season???? so the guy i got from you still hasn't bred yet... but i've got another blaze i'm raising. (if you do get those guys to breed i'd be VERY interested in a hi-red female)

Hey can you tell Nick/"Foxturtle" to post a pic of that "banana" goini of his? ... i really hope it can be reproduced!

Just snapped this picture a couple minutes ago. He's close to breeding size and will probably be ready by next year. I have a female clutchmate, but she's too small to go next year.

a153fish Sep 26, 2010 05:25 PM

Very nice! I assume your gonna line breed for that look?

My hope is that some similar looking snakes are produced in the first breeding. I might try line-breeding for the trait, but that means I've got to raise up holdbacks, which sounds like a better job for someone else!

Very nice there!

That is one sweet looking animal! The "Sulphur" of the goini world! i do hope you can produce more.

Does anything about the animal indicate it may be a recessive? besides the color it looks "typical" but i would think if it weren't "special" you would see alot more around with all the captive breeding of goini?

You and Mark K. should collaborate on a project... i think those two lines will produce something pretty sweet! Highly colored/patternless/screamers!

There isn't any strong indication that the Banana Goini's look is tied to a specific recessive trait. His parents were both wild-caught and were found over 8 miles apart, so it is unlikely that they were closely related.

There are a few key traits that I think set him apart:

A) This snake has never had any hint of red or orange coloration. From the day he hatched this snake has been bright yellow.

B) Other than a few black dots, his belly is solid yellow too.

C) He's somewhere in between patternless and striped.

D) Solid Colored Scales - Most patternless and striped Goini have scales that are at least half black. Laterally this guy's scales are almost 100% Yellow. Dorsally there is a little black tipping, which helps form his stripe.

I hope whatever is going on with him is an inheritable trait. As it stands, goini patterns are extremely variable and can be difficult to predict.

This is his female clutchmate:

I always keep a few......but produced zero this year!

If i have to base it on degree of color LOST from Hatchling - Adult i would say the animals from your line hold that red/orange color a whole lot better as they age.

But MY blaze hold some nice color... i guess i have a good eye when picking my blaze hatchlings cuz they ones i select seem to hold their color a lot better than others i've seen. hence the reason i want to breed your line into the blaze phase.
