Jungle boas?

jdh Sep 26, 2010 01:22 PM

I have been looking and reading and found some of the traits of jungles but not all of them. I have read that there is 8 different things that make it a jungle boa. Any help from anyone would be nice. I do know that color and pattern is 2 of the traits. but not sure on the other traits.

JD the best way to understand and learn how to identify a Jungle Boa
is by looking at lots of Jungle Boas !

Here are some '09 baby shots

Those are some beautiful snakes LarM, but here while back someone posted like 8 different things that made the jungle boa a jungle boa, like the dots or spots on its head, something with the tongue, the patteren and cleanlyness, something with black around certain parts fo the pattern, and other things. I was just wanting to see the list again. I personally have a pete kahl jungle het albino, but I am wanting a list of things to look for when I breed him to his girlfriend a female sungllow. Thanks again for your input and look forward for more info in the future.

You have to understand that the list of Jungle traits is not the
end all be all to identifying a Jungle Boa.

Some Jungles will have all the identifying traits but that rarely occurs!

Usually they have a few of the traits that define a Jungle.

Some of those traits that may or may not be on any given Jungle Boa are:

First and Foremost the Boa must Be related to The Lars Brandle
of Sweden line of Boas which are the original Jungle Boas

Either holes in the head spear or broken head spear.

Dorsal Lateral color shift.

A Defined crisp out line to the saddles.

reduced black borders around the tail splotches.

Aberrant markings

Saddles with distinct holes in them.

Missing saddle points.

A Distinct buckskin and or yellowish color

Often they can have a reddish tint in the very tip top upper upper part of the eye.

There maybe a speckled tongue color that occurs with the Hypo Jungle

(More on non Hypo with speckled tongue as a het identifier later after more research.
This doesn't apply here in this list really)

There are possibly more Jungle identifiers I haven't listed here !

P.S. Albino and Sunglow Jungles can be really really tricky to pick out when they are Low Expression.

Thanks LarM that was the kinda of list I was wanting. I was just wanting a basic list to know what to look for. There was something like that posted here awhile back but never got a chance to get a good look at it with a jungle boa around. Now that I have one, I can look at him and notice what you are talking about. Thanks again. Good Day

Those are some nice pics. Good info too. I'm new to jungles, and I appreciate the "What to look fors" list. Here are some pics of 2 jungles I have. They're from a Jeremy Stone line. I'm really pleased with them!

As Larry said, look at a bunch of jungles and IMO get ones that scream jungle. Here are some of the jungles that we are working with.

SADISTIC 10' 1.0 Jungle boa produced by Jason Gonzalez

NEMESIS 10' 0.1 Jungle boa produced by Jason Gonzalez

SAUCE 10' 1.0 Summit Pastel Jungle boa produced by Jason Gonzalez

IVY 08' 0.1 Jungle boa produced by Steve Ihrig of SDI

Like Larry said, just keep looking and soon enough you will be able to pick out a jungle like nothing. Hope the pics help.

What type of camera do you use? Those pictures are very crisp and clear.
