Things that make you go "hmmmmm......."

amazondoc Sep 27, 2010 06:53 PM

A guy is selling a few snakes on Craigslist.

I wrote to ask him what species he had.

He has balls, a snow corn, and what he claims are a gray-banded king and a scarlet king.

I asked him what the scarlet king was eating, and how well it ate.

He claims he feeds it 1 to 2 ADULT RATS EVERY WEEK.

Uhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm..........

Needless to say, I"ve asked for photos....

Here's a pic of the NON-scarlet king. It's a lousy pic, but what is your best guess? Sinaloan? Pueblan? Something else?

No question, it's a bloody whopping scarlet king!
I'm thinking stuarti.

Thanks for the input! It certainly does look like the pics I looked up on the web after seeing your post, but I definitely do NOT know how to differentiate all these guys...

It looks to be a normal tri-colored Hondo.

Are you saying that this person used THAT crappy-ass photo for advertising it???..HAHAA!!

Holy CRAP!,...and I do mean CRAP! too. I guess they wanted the pic so darn blurry nobody would be able to see all the poop in the cage and several sheds. No wonder this person is selling it, they are neglecting the hell out of it!

I am glad to know that hopefully it will be getting a new(and hopefully better)home.

Hondo is the first thing that came to my mind when he said it eats like a hog....but would most hondos have white rings that narrow? You would certainly know better than me!

I probably won't buy it. In fact, I probably won't hear from him again. He says he'll send me better pics tomorrow, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Stay Tuned!

Most middle rings on Hondurans are usually a tad wider, but they can vary tremendously, even within the same clutch. I just produced one that looks virtually identical to that one in the pic.

Now it could easily have some stuarti influence, as TONS of hobby Hondurans can have varying degrees of influence from stuarti, polyzona, abnorma, or even any combination of the three, AND almost anything else these days to be quite honest. Most people for countless years have always basically thought that any snake from central America with triad rings and a snout band is a "Honduran" anyway..LOL!. Very few know the difference either of the Latin American complex. I even address all this on my website's home page in detail.

It could even be a pure stuarti as Jeff just mentioned too, but the pic is WAAAY too poor to see any real details to know either way. Tighter rings are a more common trait of stuarti, but hobby Hondurans can have very tight ring counts too, or very wide ones, it just all depends on too many factors now. We can't see the snout either, so who the heck knows. All we can go by is a blurry pic that we can barely make out it is a milksnake..LOL!

I have to figure if the dude doesn't know a Scarlet king from a Burmese python, how would he get a true stuarti anyway unless it was by total accident from somewhere bought as a Honduran, or GIGANTIC Scarlet.LOL! He wouldn't know the difference if it clubbed him upside his head I am quite certain.

All in all, it looks like a decent typical hobby "Hondo" for all practical purposes.

Oh, I forgot to mention --

He specifically states in his ad that he only wants to sell his snakes to somebody who knows about snakes. I wanted to tell him that anyone who knows about snakes will realize that it ain't no scarlet!

Awesome piebald scarlet king! It was a pain getting it to eat mouse tails at first, but then it took off as you can see.
