Apparently Ask dot com...thought this was an acceptable advertisement.

Yea but if you went to it it said this......

You should not try to handle a venomous snake if you don't have any formal training in doing so.

No harm if you ask me.

I agree with the previous post. I don't see anything wrong with the ad or the answer.

I personally don't like the advertisment at all.

I also find it amusing they put a Non-Venomous Snake on that picture.

Although, I do like the answer.

They could've worded it differntly, like, "What do you do if you come across a Venomous Snake".

Or something along those lines.

Ha! I didn't even look at the pupils, just the facial scales/coloration.

After really looking at the scalation again, I'm thinking it could be some sort of Naja, though that is a really odd position for it to be in-almost like it was up against glass. that really illustrates the problem though. That old world elapid looks enough like a new world colubrid that anyone who didn't know any batter, upon seeing that ad, might assume that the baird's rat in their yard is deadly. perhaps better wording for the ad would have been "what do you do if you encounter a deadly snake" with a picture of an easily identifiable viper species.

Its a COBRA.

JoshMolone Sep 28, 2010 10:07 PM

Wow, I feel really dumb right now!

I apolgoize for my stupidity, although I too thought it was a pissed off Coulubrid.

My mistake.

Not a naja, most likely one of the pseudonaja sp. Probably affinis.
Very difficult to ID those Australian elapids with such a limited photo

It's a roughie. Tropidechis carinatus.
