Desert vs. Desert Ghost

MikeMurphy Sep 28, 2010 12:14 PM

Is there a difference between desert and desert ghost? they look the same to me. Seems like some people use the "ghost" but others don't. They don't look very ghosty to me either.

Also, does anyone know of a web site that has explanations of the morphs? I have the Barker's book and it's great and I've been to most of the big ball python breeders sites. Some are better than others, some are terrible and some are confusing. Ralph Davis' web site seems to have the most information on it but it can be a little confusing to navigate at times. I guess it's hard to keep a really current web site on morphs since so many new ones are being created at such a fast pace. Really amazing to watch.

Thanks for the feedback. Mike

the desert ghosts have been around for many years and are recessive! deserts on the other hand are co-dom! and still fairly new! but nothiong about the 2 are even simalar outside of the confusing name! wich can still further confuse you because hypo,s are also reffered as ghost`s usually orange ghost, yellow, butterscotch, ETC. HOPE THIS HELPS YA~ regards

You may have helped him, but you just confused me, lol. Just kidding, I didn't understand it in the first place. It doesn't help that some of the "Hypos" (AKA Ghosts) are actually Xanthic and not genetically hypomelanistic at all.

I think I'll just stick with Piebalds. Much easier.

I feel like the pictures I've seen of each look pretty much the same. A very high-contrast snake, with really clean pattern. I'll have to go back and look now...

Thank you for this web site URL. This is exactly what I needed.

And yeah, now I see the difference. Both awesome but I think I like the desert a bit more than the ghost.

Thanks again.
