Odd king?

snakekate Sep 28, 2010 01:04 PM

This odd little baby cali king hatched this year, not sure if its an aberrant? Any how I cant seem to find another one that looks like it, but I really want to breed the 'jaguar' pattern on...any suggestions as to what I would breed it to, or any other California kingsnakes that have a similar pattern?

I've hatched out quite a few very similar to that one. I got mine by breeding a desert phase X banana phase.

I agree those patterns pop up when breeding different patterns together. You see them a bit when a Banana is used. This monitor doesn't show the best colors but it looks pretty white from here. You may want to search out a high white aberrant, or a banana. If that's a baby it's creamy color may change as it matures too. Definately a pretty snake!

Oh, it is DEFINITELY an aberrant pattern, but they are also fairly common to see in the hobby now. You can still see the solid black tail remnant which is an indicative trait of the Newport-Long Beach morph that was used to create that phenotype along with a "high-white" 50-50 desert phase Cal. king.

Just keep looking at the KS classifieds and local reptile shows, and you should be able to get a very similar looking one with much trouble at all.

That is a real nice one, .......congrats!
