Slightly OT - WI or IL?

tcdrover Oct 01, 2010 08:51 AM

Hi boa nation, I'm curious if there are any major differences in the boa laws for IL and WI.

I might be moving north next year. I think I want to get a place in between Chicago and Milwaukee so I can commute back and forth.
I want to get a place with some land outside of any major cities. With a BIG basement, obviously.

I know there are plenty of boa afficionados in that area. Which state or area do you prefer?

Should I avoid any areas or cities in particular?

I have an American Bulldog, I need to check into that as well.

Thanks for any tips,
tc

I'm from N.IL, Kane County. Kane County is a decent County to Live in.I know I would probably move out
of the village and to the County if I have/had a chance financially to do so.
Instead of living in a small city or village with silly ordinances restricting
home business operations and so forth.

There are small village and city laws and ordinances that you really do not ever
seriously consider that can affect a person.
It only takes a silly neighbor or an over zealous code enforcement officer
and you end up with a serious headache and stress.

The IL.state laws are extremely vague on large constrictors, that's a whole other issue.
No one seems to be causing any trouble in that area in this state yet.

I'm actually not as familiar with Wis. Laws as I should be .
I don't travel there with my snakes yet.
In the near future I possibly will be going there, so I need to
familiarize myself with those Laws.

Thanks, Lar.

I need enough land around the house so I can't see any
neighbors, and they can't see me.

Well there's plenty of that out in deep west Kane County.

Although it ain't no $10,000 Acre like it was 25-30 years ago

On the american bull, does it come with real papers? The reason I am asking is there are places that they get confused with being Pitties. Some of the smaller burgs outside greater milwaukee are good for this. IL is pretty well safe for the dogs as is WI. A few places will be troublesome, but we have like 6 cities in the state with BSL against pitties and having an AB myself I always look at those laws. General Public has no difference between AB and APBT. I will say however the shelter population is getting pretty good at telling the difference between the breeds.

If you decide WI, shoot me an email and we can look at cities. Some restrict nothing and some restrict everything. Burlington WI it is illegal to even own a frog or gecko. Constrictors are illegal in Waukesha, but say for instance west allis, it has no reptile laws I am aware of. City of Milwaukee has no laws against snakes specifically, but it does ban dangerous snakes as decided upon the time of inspection. It also bans carnivorous lizards, which is crocodilians, monitors and tegus.

I will be happy to help if you look along the lines of WI. Both on the dog and reptile front.

Thanks Cindy!

I'm not yet sure where I want to move but I know it isn't
in Milwaukee.

I was starting to check any small towns in IL between Chicago
and Milwaukee. My dog has her papers. Her parents used to do
competitions and are both champions.

We have that same issue here. In Dade county pitbulls are
illegal. I live in Broward which neighbors dade. Here they have
to be registered in some special way. I had someone report me
back when I first moved here. I showed the 'animal police' her
papers and they left me alone in peace.

Lots of rural locations down there. No BSL out of Milwaukee County to the south. Racine city (which I am doubting you are looking at) is pretty rough but has laws against Vens. There are a few small areas down there that have laws against reptiles. I am thinking Mt. Pleasant has a constrictor law.

Lake County Reptile show is a fairly nice small show. There is also Sewerfest twice a year that is a nice small CB Only show. I will say those organizers really police the CB rule and keep a good eye on those involved.

We also have the Chicago Herp Society up here that is crazy active.

Although I never lived in WI I was stationed in Chicago their are several boa people and you have a show in Wheaton twice a month if you want to pick up some frozen feeders and pretty close to the Tinley Show. Can't complain to much other than the weather but your screwed either way as far as laws the only thing I was aware of is venemous laws and in Hogkins you can't have a constrictor over 10 ft or so if I remember correctly.

Thanks, I like Chicago too. I hadn't even started thinking about
where to get feeders yet.

It will be a major change. I'm used to South Florida. I'm still
not sure exactly how I feel about this potential move.

I'm sick of the heat down here but I get to handle my boas all
year round. I guess if I moved that probably wouldn't be the case

For feeders you have a few choices one is the show and another good one is American Rodent Supply they don't charge shipping and their rats are the best around.
Also enjoy the heat and try moving toward the end of summer that way you can have your animals get settled in and ready for breeding season. I recently was re stationed in Cali but their are some things I miss one being a bar in Aurora called Saddle Up it's a fun place haha
