Kind of a funny thing about movies...

SouthernSerpent Oct 01, 2010 11:52 PM

Tonight the wife and I were bored so we watched Predator. You know the Arnold Swarzenegger flick that took place in Central America? I have seen this movie about a bazillion times. This time being a little more educated about herps and a few other exotic animals, I noticed two things that really made me crack up.

First was when Mac called to Dillon and snagged the scorpion off his shoulder with his knife...the scorpion was held on the tip of the knife by a gum looking substance and you can clearly see it in the two shots before he squished it.

Second was after Hawkins got mutilated and disappeared. While searching for their team mate, Arnold has a stop and check out noise that turns out to be a snake on a vine shot. Anyone ever notice what type of snake it was? If you said reticulated python, then you are correct.

I found them both to be outrageously funny scenes for the clear lack of effort involved by the movie industry. Given that the average person would never have caught onto the snake being in the wrong area of the world. I suppose the average person could have caught the gummy substance on the knife and the scorpion. Maybe I am a completely lame loser that has seen this movie one time too many. LOL!! Oh well, I guess that will be the funny for the evening for everyone. Later!

Yeah, I love when they show a boa crawling while playing the rattlesnake rattle sound effect.

Predator was a great movie. What I especially liked was how Man was metaphorically placed in the position of the animals.

I used to notice asian elephants, boa constrictors, american alligators, and tigers, to name a few, in the old black and white johnny weismuller tarzan movies. Cant get more lame than that. i also noticed that jaguars and leopards get interchanged with each other a lot. Dont get me started on all the huskys and malamutes that have portrayed timber wolves in all sorts of movies.

I like the new motorcycle insurance commercial that shows a corn snake out in the desert.

I know someone who worked on the early story boards for that movie. The first incarnation of the predator was a snake-like/reptile-like creature. After that they changed him to have more human physiological characteristics because the snake seemed too cheesey.
