feeding snakes snakes....

Nokturnel Tom Oct 02, 2010 07:42 PM

In order to not hijack the post below I just wanted to ask something...
Most of the time... if I feed a snake another snake... they either regurge OR poop out the skin that still resembles a snake... in other words it is not easy to distinguish by smell if is poop or regurge. It happened so many times I am wondering if that is just the way a snake "passes" through another snakes digestive system?
Anyone know what I mean?
I do not recall a snake eating another snake or even a piece [my recommendation..frozen corns cut into one inch segments for scenting or feeding..] of another snake will still be visible when pooped out?
????

The only time I have fed a snake to another snake is when I had my wc Cali king, who was a sporadic feeder, so getting him to eat on a regular basis was a challenge; I would feed him those little sharptailed snakes the cats would catch and kill. He really liked those and when he pooped them out it looked just like ordinary poop same as if he had eaten a mouse.

NO...snakes eat snakes and defecates are normal ....no snake scales or pieces....I fed corns to reds a bunch of times the last few years....baby balls to 2 year old splendita this year....and my friend fed all kinds of snakes to an adult male brook's......we fed others too....no signs of snake from rear ,only if it is regurged....

a different note...I have had a baby greeri eat it's shed that got rolled onto a pink , fed ,shed, stuck together....he ate shed and all....a couple days later....shed was out again...I think it came from vent end.....full skin....not digested at all...makes no sense...........???.....

.....good luck.......!.....feed snakes not too big for the food items.....big meals can and will kill......

I used to feed any dead-in-shell hatchlings to whatever Kingsnakes or Western Hognoses I had in the collection at the time; both would feed ravenously on the deceased hatchlings and defecate no differently than had they been on their normal diet of rodents.

I have never seen any big difference in the waste when my kings have fed on other snakes as opposed to other food items.

I've seen that first hand. I fed a juvenile Mexican black king a hatchling Gopher snake many years ago. One night while in my room, I seen the king poop. I went over to clean it up right away and there was poop mixed with a longish thin piece of skin that still had a noticeable pattern on it. I noticed the same thing other times but never witnessed to pooping. lol Maybe the snake didn't have sufficient heat, I don't know.
